What problem L-01 solves

Gardens and outdoor properties contain large utility installations at ground level: wide septic tank lids with raised risers (60–80 cm), residential pool sand filter systems (ø 60–78 cm), pump-filter assemblies exceeding 29 cm in height, manhole covers and inspection chambers with above-grade collar rings, well pump assemblies with surface casings, and transformer boxes or ground-level utility cabinets. These objects are too wide for the S-series (max ø 49 cm) and too tall for the M-series at comparable coverage — M-03 offers ø 80 cm but only 32 cm height, leaving insufficient clearance for objects above ~29 cm.

Traditional concealment is impractical at this scale. A natural stone of comparable coverage (93 × 91 × 37 cm) weighs 300–500 kg — requiring a crane, a concrete foundation, and permanent ground disturbance, at a cost of €1,000–5,000+. Budget plastic covers at L-series dimensions lack structural integrity, warp under UV exposure, and their painted surfaces degrade within 2–3 seasons.

The L-01 resolves this as the entry-price L-series model with maximum coverage: ø 80 cm in a near-square boulder body (93 × 91 cm) at only 14 kg. It provides the same ø 80 cm as M-03 but with +5 cm additional height (37 vs 32 cm), at −1 kg lighter, and at −€42 lower price — the correct upgrade whenever the concealment target fits within ø 80 cm but is taller than ~29 cm.

How the product works

The L-01 is a hollow shell shaped as a near-square asymmetric boulder (93 × 91 cm, ratio 1.02:1). The profile is asymmetric — edge height varies from ≈10 cm on one side to ≈18 cm on the other, with the peak at ≈37 cm in the centre zone — giving it the organic, irregular look of a natural field stone rather than a uniform dome. The interior provides a usable coverage diameter of ~80 cm, accommodating standard EU septic lids (60–80 cm), pool sand filters (ø 60–78 cm), and wide utility assemblies with clearance.

Installation requires no tools, no foundation, and no site preparation. Place the L-01 over the target object on any surface: grass, soil, gravel, paving. The base is fully open with no internal partitions. Total setup time: under 2 minutes. Personnel: two people recommended (14 kg). To access the equipment underneath, lift the stone.

Stability comes from the stone's own weight (14 kg) and its near-square base footprint (93 × 91 cm). For exposed or windy locations, landscape anchoring stakes around the base can be used.

Seasonal behavior is neutral. The fiberglass composite structure does not absorb water, does not expand or contract meaningfully with temperature changes, and tolerates a continuous operating range from −30 °C to +60 °C. The stone performs identically in summer heat, autumn rain, and winter frost. It does not need to be removed, covered, or stored during any season.

Base contact — the stone has a non-sealed base and rests directly on the ground surface. It is not hermetically sealed; natural micro air exchange between the interior cavity and the surrounding environment is possible through the ground contact zone.

Safety and load limitations — the product supports 100+ kg of static load under normal conditions. It is not a load-bearing structure, is not designed for impact loads, and is not intended for jumping or active play without prior structural adaptation of the product. Use in children's and public zones is possible with a pre-agreed usage scenario, engineering adaptation of the structure, and coordination of safety requirements.

Material and durability philosophy

The L-01 is constructed from a multi-layer fiberglass composite (GFK) — the same class of material used in boat hull construction, chosen for its strength-to-weight ratio and long-term weather resistance.

The outer surface is a marble chip and marble powder gelcoat of the ISO/NPG class. The color is not painted, printed, or applied as a film. Instead, natural stone chips and stone dust are mixed directly into the gelcoat compound during manufacturing. This means the color and grain are embedded in the material itself, producing a surface that ages gracefully rather than peeling, flaking, or fading.

Handcrafted production (In Handarbeit gefertigt) — color and dimensional deviations of 3–5 cm are within normal range. At 1 metre viewing distance, the L-01 is not identifiable as artificial.

The L-01 occupies a deliberate middle position: lighter than natural stone (14 kg vs 300–500 kg), far more durable and realistic than budget plastic, and uniquely combining a hollow interior with a marine-grade composite shell.

Warranty

The GARTENDEK warranty on artificial stones is 5 years from the date of delivery.

The warranty does not cover:

• mechanical damage;
• cosmetic changes (natural gelcoat matting, minor degradation of the outer layer due to UV exposure);
• exposure to aggressive chemicals;
• use other than intended;
• modifications not agreed with GARTENDEK.

The warranty applies in addition to the consumer's statutory rights under applicable EU legislation.

Real use scenarios

Composition logic. The L-01 is the L-size twin of M-02 in the sharp-ridge / broken-edge family (Group A: S-01, S-02, S-05, S-07, M-02, L-01, XL-02, XXXL-01). In a multi-stone composition it naturally plays the role of a large weathered anchor with peaked asymmetric ridge — best paired with M-02 (same shape language, one size down) as a direct same-family pair, with the S-series Group A stones (S-01 as compact peaked ridge, S-02 as flat elongated slab, S-05 as the wide weathered fieldstone, S-07 as the lighter low-profile twin of S-05) as satellites in the same colour, with XL-02 as an extended plateau partner, and under the giant XXXL-01 anchor. Avoid mixing L-01 in a close composition with the round-boulder family (S-03, S-06, M-01, L-02, XL-04) or with the chopped-rocky trilogy (S-04, M-04, L-04) — the angular chipped-edge language and the soft rounded language do not blend. When using multiple stones of the same colour in a close group, expect natural tonal variation of the marble-chip gelcoat.

Ventilation. The L-01 base is fully open with non-sealed contact with the ground surface. When placed on grass, gravel, or uneven terrain, natural micro air exchange is possible between the interior cavity and the surrounding environment.

L-01 vs M-03 — Cross-Series Overlap (Both ø 80 cm)

Choose L-01 over M-03 when:

1. the object is ø ≤80 cm AND taller than ~29 cm — M-03 (32 cm) doesn't provide enough headroom;
2. budget is a factor — L-01 is €42 cheaper with more height and lighter weight;
3. a larger, more dominant boulder silhouette is preferred — L-01 footprint is ~10 % larger.

Choose M-03 over L-01 when:

1. space is limited — M-03 has a smaller footprint (85 × 83 vs 93 × 91 cm);
2. object is under ~29 cm tall — M-03's lower profile is adequate and more compact.

Shape-family positioning

Beyond dimensions, L-01 has a defined role in the GARTENDEK shape taxonomy: it is the L-size twin of the M-02 within the sharp-ridge / broken-edge family (Group A). The same angular peaked-ridge character as M-02, scaled up to L-size coverage and height. The L-01 is the L-size twin of the M-02 in the sharp-ridge / broken-edge family (Group A: S-01, S-02, S-05, S-07, M-02, L-01, XL-02, XXXL-01). Its best partners in a multi-stone composition are other Group A stones — M-02 as a direct same-family pair one size down, S-01 / S-02 / S-05 / S-07 as satellites, XL-02 as an extended plateau, and the XXXL-01 as the giant anchor — ideally in the same colour for a natural fieldstone rhythm. Avoid mixing L-01 in a close composition with round-boulder models (S-03, S-06, M-01, L-02, XL-04) or with the chopped-rocky trilogy (S-04, M-04, L-04) — the shape languages do not blend. When stones are placed close together, keep the colour consistent and expect natural tonal variation of the marble-chip gelcoat.

My pool sand filter is ø 76 cm. Will the L-01 fit?

Yes. The L-01 provides ø 80 cm interior clearance — approximately 2 cm clearance on each side for a ø 76 cm object. For objects ø ≤73 cm at heights ≤27 cm, consider the more compact M-01.

What is the difference between L-01 and M-03?

Both provide ø 80 cm coverage. L-01 is taller (37 vs 32 cm), lighter (14 vs 15 kg) and cheaper (€335,98 vs €378,24), but has a larger footprint (93×91 vs 85×83 cm). Choose L-01 for objects taller than ~29 cm; choose M-03 when space is limited and the object is under ~29 cm.

Can I use L-01 to cover a standard septic lid?

Yes. Standard EU septic lids of 60–80 cm fit within the ø 80 cm coverage. L-01 conceals both the lid and any raised riser ring, with up to 37 cm of vertical clearance.

Is it hollow?

Yes. Fully hollow with an open base. No internal partitions. Equipment remains instantly accessible — lift the stone to service.

Can it stay outdoors year-round?
