Buyer A — the landscape designer / garden enthusiast

You searched for large decorative rocks for garden, großer Findling / Steingarten Kunstfelsen, feature stones zen garden, grandes pierres décoratives jardin, sassi grandi da giardino. You want a substantial specimen stone — the kind of weathered boulder that anchors a rock garden, a Japanese-inspired composition, or a transition between lawn and planting. Natural stones of this visual scale (400–700 kg) require crane delivery, specialised access, and cost €1,500–6,000+. You want the look without the logistics. L-02 at 18 kg gives you the silhouette of a 500 kg glacier-deposit boulder that two people can place in under two minutes.

Buyer B — the pool / pond owner with equipment to hide

You have a pool sand filter with a multiport valve, or a linear pump + filter setup, or a well pump with a pressure tank — equipment that is wider than ø 51 cm AND taller than 37 cm, which rules out M-series stones and rules out L-01. The elongated 108 cm body of L-02 lets you cover two pieces of equipment under one stone — a linear configuration none of the square-footprint models in the range can handle.

Buyer C — the property owner with a septic or utility problem

Two adjacent elements go under one elongated stone instead of two visibly-placed smaller covers that attract more attention than the equipment itself.

All three buyers receive the same stone. That is the point — L-02 is not a niche product, it is a shape that happens to solve three different problems.

How the product works

L-02 is a hollow shell shaped as a reclining field boulder — peak ridge at roughly 42 cm, tapering gradually toward the long edges to recreate a naturally deposited Feldstein. Interior: ~75 cm of usable coverage across the short axis, the full 108 cm along the long axis.

Installation. Place the stone directly over the target area on any surface — grass, soil, gravel, paving. No anchoring, no foundation, no tools. Orient the 108 cm axis along the longest dimension of the equipment or landscape line — this is the single most important placement rule for L-02. At 18 kg, the stone requires two people for safe handling. Typical installation time: under 2 minutes.

Access. To service concealed equipment, lift the stone (two people), perform maintenance, set it back. No disassembly, no fasteners, no loss of access.

Stability on exposed sites. L-02 is the heaviest stone in the L-series. Combined with the 108 × 86 cm base, the low centre of gravity keeps it in place on open lawns, windy coastlines, driveway edges — locations where lighter S- or M-series covers need additional ballast.

Seasonal behaviour. The GFK composite does not absorb water, does not expand or contract with temperature, and works from −30 °C to +60 °C. No winterisation required.

Base contact. The base is non-sealed; the stone rests directly on the ground. Natural micro air exchange between the interior cavity and the surrounding environment is possible through the ground contact zone. This matters for equipment that generates heat or moisture (pumps, electrical cabinets).

Safety and load limitations. Static load 100+ kg. Not a load-bearing structure; not designed for impact loads or active play. Use in children's and public zones is possible with a pre-agreed usage scenario, engineering adaptation, and safety coordination.

Technical specifications:

Material & durability philosophy — why GFK + ISO/NPG gelcoat, not HDPE or polyresin

When you search for faux rocher résine, roccia finta resina, Kunstfelsen polyresin, fiberglass rock, you find three material families on the market. They are not equivalent, and the choice explains most of the price difference between products that look identical in photos.

HDPE (high-density polyethylene) — the cheapest option. Injection-moulded shell painted on the outside. Lightweight (5–10 kg for this size), inexpensive (€80–200), and the paint fades within 2–3 outdoor seasons. You can identify these products at a touch: the surface feels like painted plastic.

Polyresin (polystone) — mineral powder mixed with resin, often referred to as "stone-cast". Closer to realistic than HDPE, but the pigment is typically surface-applied, and the material is brittle under frost cycles. Common in the German DACH market under the Polyresin label.

GFK / fiberglass composite with ISO/NPG gelcoat — what L-02 is made of. Multi-layer fiberglass laminate as the structural shell (the same class of material used in boat hulls), with the outer layer built from natural marble chips and marble powder embedded in a marine-grade gelcoat. Color is part of the material, not applied on top. No paint to fade, no film to peel. This is why GFK products cost 3–5× more than HDPE — and why they still look right after a decade outdoors.

Handcrafted production (In Handarbeit gefertigt) — color and dimensional deviations of 3–5 cm are within normal range. At 1 metre viewing distance, L-02 is not identifiable as artificial.

Material comparison table

Maintenance is minimal — occasional water and a soft brush. No sealing, repainting, or chemical treatment is ever required.

Warranty

The GARTENDEK warranty on artificial stones is 5 years from the date of delivery.

The warranty does not cover:

• mechanical damage;
• cosmetic changes (natural gelcoat matting, minor degradation of the outer layer due to UV exposure);
• exposure to aggressive chemicals;
• use other than intended;
• modifications not agreed with GARTENDEK.

The warranty applies in addition to the consumer's statutory rights under applicable EU legislation.

L-02 serves three intent clusters. Each scenario below names the concrete object and the reason this specific stone fits.

? Specimen-stone & landscape scenarios

1. Steingarten / rock garden feature stone — The 108 cm reclining silhouette is the classical Findling shape — a weathered boulder that anchors a rock garden composition. Place it among gravel, low alpines, ornamental grasses. L-02 reads as the dominant lying stone of the group; smaller S- and M-series models cluster around it.

2. Japanese / zen garden feature stone — In Japanese garden tradition, a reclining horizontal stone represents fuseki-ishi (recumbent/earth stone) — stability, permanence, the horizontal axis. L-02's elongated low silhouette fits this role directly. Combine with raked gravel and a single upright stone for classical three-stone composition.

3. Driveway edge / property boundary accent — The 108 × 86 cm footprint creates a visual full-stop along a driveway or property edge. Wind-stable on exposed sites.

4. Lawn-to-planting transition — A long low boulder softens the edge where lawn meets a planted bed. The elongated form follows the line of the bed rather than punctuating it like a round stone would.

5. Pond surround / waterfall base — For naturalistic pond design (bassin jardin naturel, laghetto naturalistico), L-02 acts as a shoreline anchor stone. The elongated profile suggests a stone partially submerged at the water's edge.

? Pool & water-feature equipment scenarios

6. Pool sand filter + multiport valve — The primary "tall-and-wide" case. Sand filters with multiport valve heads often exceed 38–40 cm total height while the tank is ø 60–73 cm. L-01 (37 cm clearance) does not fit; L-02 does.

7. Linear pump + filter layout — Where pump and filter are installed side by side — a very common pool configuration — the 108 cm elongated body of L-02 covers both under one stone. No other M- or L-model exceeds 93 cm in length. This scenario is uniquely L-02's.

8. Pond pump + filter housing — External pond filters combined with pump and UV clarifier form a long low cluster. L-02's proportions fit these assemblies better than any round stone.

9. Well pump + pressure tank — Above-ground well heads with pressure tanks, pipe clusters and control valves — the classic "tall and wide" case that neither compact M-series nor low-profile L-01 can resolve.

? Utility & technical infrastructure scenarios

10. Septic riser + adjacent vent pipe — French and Italian buyers specifically search for this: cacher fosse septique + ventilation, coprire fossa settica con vent. Two adjacent elements go under one 108 cm stone rather than two separate smaller covers.

11. Inspection chamber / manhole with raised collar — Access points where the above-grade part (concrete collar, service riser, protective hood) brings total height to 38–42 cm. Inside L-02's ø 75 cm × 42 cm envelope with clearance on all sides.

12. Tall outdoor utility cabinets — Electrical distribution boxes, gas meters, cable boxes, well control cabinets in the ø 60–73 cm / 38–42 cm bracket.

13. Irrigation manifold — Multi-zone valve manifolds with solenoid valves, pressure regulators, above-grade wiring. The elongated interior accommodates the full cluster with service-access clearance.

❌ What L-02 is NOT the right model for

In the interest of a correct match, three cases where another model serves better:

• Robot mower garage — L-02's reclining shape does not provide the rectangular opening a mower needs to drive through. Purpose-built mower garages (stone-optic housings with open front) are a different product category.
• Very wide low objects (> ø 75 cm, < 30 cm tall) — use L-01 (ø 80 cm) or M-03 (ø 80 cm, 32 cm).
• Very tall narrow objects (< ø 50 cm, > 45 cm tall) — use L-04 (ø 67 cm, 45 cm) or request a custom solution.

Position inside the GARTENDEK lineup

L-02 niche: the only model that combines ø 75 cm coverage with 42 cm height in a 108 cm elongated body. The tool for tall-and-elongated equipment, for linear-equipment layouts, for Feldstein-style specimen boulders, and for wind-exposed sites.

Choose L-02 when:

• the object is tall and/or elongated (height 38–42 cm, or two units side by side);
• ø 75 cm interior coverage is enough;

Consider a different model when:

• object wider than ø 75 cm and low → L-01 (ø 80 cm, 37 cm) or M-03 (ø 80 cm, 32 cm);
• object taller than 42 cm → L-04 (ø 67 cm, 45 cm);
• object is compact and flat → M-02 (low-profile, maximum discretion);

Does L-02 look real?

The surface is formed from real marble chips and marble powder embedded in an ISO/NPG gelcoat — not painted. Color is part of the material. At 1 metre viewing distance, not identifiable as artificial. Handcrafted variation gives each stone unique grain.

What is the difference between GFK gelcoat, polyresin, and HDPE?

HDPE = injection-moulded plastic with paint on top (fades in 2–3 seasons). Polyresin = mineral + resin cast with surface pigment (brittle in frost). GFK with marble chip gelcoat = fiberglass laminate with marble integrated into the gelcoat layer (color is part of the material, 10+ years outdoor). L-02 is GFK gelcoat.

Can I use L-02 as a decorative stone, not as a cover?

Yes — that is one of its three main uses. The 108 cm reclining silhouette is a classical Feldstein / Steingarten form and works as a specimen stone for rock gardens, Japanese-inspired gardens, or substantial landscape accents. The hollow interior is a bonus, not a requirement.

Can L-02 cover a pool pump and filter at the same time?

Yes, if installed side by side within an ~100 cm line. The 108 cm elongated body is specifically for this case — no other M- or L-model exceeds 93 cm in length.

Can L-02 cover a septic access + vent pipe?

Yes, if both fit within a 108 × 75 cm footprint and ≤ 42 cm height. This is a common configuration in French and Italian markets where septic tank ventilation rises next to the access cover.

Is L-02 suitable for a robot mower garage?

No. L-02's reclining shape does not offer the rectangular drive-through opening a mower needs. Purpose-built mower garages (open-front stone-optic housings) are a separate product category.

Why is L-02 more expensive than plastic fake rocks I see for €80–200?

Material and manufacturing class. Those products are HDPE with printed or painted surfaces that fade within 2–3 seasons. L-02 is a marine-grade GFK laminate with natural marble chips integrated into the gelcoat. The material is the reason for the price and the reason for the 10+ year service life.

Can I make my own faux rock this size?

You can — DIY faux rocks are built from foam + cement or chicken-wire + mortar. Expect 15–25 hours of work, 40–80 kg final weight, €100–150 in materials, and a cement-painted surface that will chalk within 2–3 years. L-02 is an 18 kg serial product with a 5-year warranty and marble-chip gelcoat that stays color-stable. Different propositions.

Can one person install L-02?

No. At 18 kg, it requires two people for safe handling. Once in place: no tools, no foundation, no anchoring.

Is L-02 frost-proof?

Yes. −30 °C to +60 °C. Year-round permanent outdoor placement without seasonal maintenance.

What colors is L-02 available in?
